Oracle launched its Generation 2 Cloud region in Jeddah, becoming the first public cloud provider with a region inside Saudi Arabia, and said it planned a further region in the Kingdom. The launch addressed data-residency requirements of Saudi enterprises and government entities.
It was the starting point for the wave of hyperscale cloud regions that followed from Google, Microsoft and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
