A royal decree dated 30 August 2019 established the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), linked directly to the Prime Minister. The decree created two affiliated bodies, the National Data Management Office (NDMO) and the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI), and transferred the National Information Center (NIC) to SDAIA.
The authority was given the mandate to set the national strategy for data and AI and to oversee its implementation.
