KAUST announced its Center of Excellence on Generative AI on 1 July 2024, chaired by Bernard Ghanem with Jürgen Schmidhuber as co-chair. The center targets four national priority areas set by the Research, Development and Innovation Authority: health and wellness, sustainability and essential needs, energy and industrials, and economies of the future. Planned work includes specialized models for clinical imaging, drug design, Earth observation and educational technology.
