The inaugural Future Investment Initiative (FII), organized by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), ran from 24 to 26 October 2017 at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center and the Ritz-Carlton in Riyadh, with more than 2,000 attendees. The forum was announced on 18 September 2017 and is best remembered for the launch of NEOM and the announcement of citizenship for the robot Sophia. FII has since become an annual platform where Saudi Arabia announces investment and technology partnerships.
